Welcome to my portfolio!
My name is Manuel Weiss and I'm studying interactive media at the University of applied sciences in Augsburg, Germany.
On this page I'd like to present some of my most recent work.
Currently my main focus lies on 3d graphics and I'm working with a friend and colleague on a 3d short.
You can see the main character in the '3D' category. He's a fat programmer, trying to pick up a pencil which has
fallen to the ground without getting out of his chair because he is so lazy :)
I've been working with computers for several years now and my first steps in the 3d world were made in 3ds Max.
After a while I switched to Maya and stayed there. Currently I'm expanding my knowledge about rigging and rendering techniques.
Of course I'm familiar with programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and the likes as well and I have basic programming skills.
I really like to draw what's in my head and in some cases I really love seeing my ideas in 3d as they come alive.

Fatguy Animation: Blockings
These are some rough blockings of the final animations for the fatguy. The first Video is actually a more refined version which is still not final. I've been
working on that for three days in total. There's still a lot more work to be done until we have a presentable version of it. Please note that the charactermodel
gets more controls for his belly later on which allows us to eliminate these penetrations of his belly and his feet for example.
You can leave your hat on
A stop motion movie which i made in the second semester together with 4 other people in teamwork. My responsibilities consisted mainly in directing the movie, animation supervising and art direction.
It is about a day in the life of a mushroom and his family. The movie took us about 3 month to finish.
Vlad the Vampire
The short 'Vlad the Vampire' (Production title) was supposed to be released at the end of the third semester.
Unfortunately due to some technical problems the movie was never finished and because we didn't have much time either, everything was animated
in 2 days only. The background will be replaced by a more dynamic one. I also noticed several problems with the lighting, some materials and of course the animation itself because of the extreme time limit. Scene animation, lighting, modelling, texturing and rendering were done by me.
Standard walk
These walkcycles were done as a homework for 'Timebased-Media' class. I made several variations of any of the walkcycles.
What you see here are the first version of each walkcycle which are the hand-drawn frames.
Confident walk
Melancholic walk
Jumpy walk
Photek music visualisation 1
In this project we had to produce rhytmical animations just by using rectancles with a ratio of 5:1 and 3 colours. Overlapping of the shapes was allowed. 25 of these were made.
Photek music visualisation 2
Just the same as the first visualisation, but only the use of 2 colors was allowed. Overlapping of the shapes was not allowed. There were 25 of these as well.
